New Update to SFIV iPhone Adds Sagat, Deejay!

Posted in DLC, Fan Service, Fighting Games, iGaming, iPhone, Mobile Games, Street Fighter IV on November 18, 2010 by thelonegamer

Sagat and Deejay are in the house!

The latest download to the iPhone version of Streetfighter IV is available on the appstore. Though previously announced that the update adds Thai boss Sagat, it’s now been revealed that Jamaican whirlwind Deejay is also part of the package. While Sagat is playable off the bat, Deejay has to be unlocked (by playing wirelessly three times). Also available is an ‘Fight Request’ mode so you can take on other players via wifi, Game Center support and the option to play original SF2 music (in-app purchase).
Judging from the pic above, I think there’s at least two more fighters that can be added to the roster after this update. For now though, this should tide us all over.

More New Fighters for Marvel Vs Capcom 3!

Posted in DLC, Fan Service, Fighting Games, Game Advertising, Gaming, Marvel vs Capcom 3, PS3, Xbox360 on November 17, 2010 by thelonegamer

Hot on the debuts of She-Hulk and Zero in Marvel Vs Capcom 3, a couple more combatants have been revealed for the crossover fighter, albeit apparently as DLC characters. Resident Evil heroine Jill Valentine joins along with alien menace Shuma-Gorath as additional characters that will be available as downloads via the MvC3 special edition.

Jill will be sporting her ‘Nina Williams’ look from Resident Evil 5, complete with sexy black battle suit, short blonde hair and, strangely enough, the mind-controlling device embedded in her chest. Shuma-Gorath is, of course, naked. Check out official artworks for these two, as well as looks at the cover art for the game, over at Fighter’s Generation. Marvel Vs Capcom 3 debuts on PS3 and Xbox360 this coming February 15, 2011.

Blow by blow updates from Twitter!

What’s the latest in the Capcom side of fighting games? Well, according to Yoshinori Ono on Twitter, the SF producer will be headed to Moscow on November 20-21 for some event. He’ll be announcing something about Super Streetfighter IV and giving some news regarding Streetfighter X Tekken.

Also, Ono mentioned “And I’ll have special animation movie. It’s localized.”
What is this special animation movie? A new trailer for SSFIV or SF X Teken? Or perhaps something to do with the SSFIV Juri OVA? We’ll just have to wait and see. I’ll keep my eyes on Twitter for any more updates then.

Happy Halloween Gaming!

Hey there, everyone. It’s the Witching Hour here, so I should get some shut-eye soon… but darn, I’m still wide awake after playing a couple of hours of Red Dead Redemption. That’s the regular RDR mode, albeit I’ve already installed my newly-purchased Undead Nightmare DLC. Strange is, I only got RDR recently, and now I’m enjoying playing it. Heck, I may just have to play through a lot of it in regular mode before I switch to UN. I mean, there’s a lot of referential stuff that you’ll probably enjoy more in UN if you play through RDR first. The good news is, it’s not really a chore at all- living life through John Marston’s boots is pretty awesome. It’s literally living every Western Movie I’ve ever watched.

Anyway, I’m enjoying the long weekend break. Should be able to play a lot more games before the good times end. Everyone, enjoy yourselves and stay safe. Happy Halloween!

Get ’em while they’re hot!

The first batch of alternate outfits for Super Streetfighter IV are apparently now available online! You can check out the goods in advance in the video above, showing off Mak, Hakan, Dudley, Deejay and Guy in their new costumes. Me, I’m liking how fetching Makoto is in her school uniform. Nice!

X-Men Arcade Returns from Antiquity!

A relic of my youth is resurrected for PSN and XBLA.

Wow. I remember seeing this waaaaay back in the 90s and plunking quite a few tokens into the four-player machine. This was a pretty simple beat ’em up, made awesome of course by the characters (at that time I lived and breathed the X-men comic). The gameplay is pretty straightforward and designed to suck out tokens from your pocket like a thirsty giraffe. Still, it was loads of fun to have the whole gang fighting alongside one another, even if you got left as the player controlling Dazzler. The next awesome X-men game would be the one-on-one fighter, X-men: Children of the Atom, which would come much later. But this was a classic. On the downside, I much prefer the Aliens VS Predator beat ’em up to this (Linne Kurosawa rocks) or even The Simpsons game. Give me those titles for download and I’ll be really interested.

The Uphill Battle for SSFIV Arcade Edition DLC

Posted in Arcade, DLC, Fan Service, Fighting Games, Game-related Events, Gaming, PS3, Super Streetfighter IV, Xbox360 on October 12, 2010 by thelonegamer

If you’re one of those SF fans holding out to see the additional fighters Yun and Yang to jump from the arcade to your home version of Super Streetfighter IV, you may be in for a disappointment. Though SF producer Yoshinori Ono has been working for the past week or so to get approval for the as-yet-arcade-only extra fighters to be made available as DLC, it seems that hopes are dim.

The problem though, weirdly enough, seems to lie with the upper management of Capcom USA. While Ono has already secured approval from his Japanese superiors, it seems that the suits in America don’t deem it to their interests to give gamers a little bit more extra for their game. Or so we are told through Ono-san’s Twitter.

Really, Capcom USA? Are you that stingy or dense? The more is always merrier. If you hold out on the fans who keep your games alive… well…

Ah, who the freak cares. I don’t really care about Yun or Yang. I’d much rather that Ono-san concentrate on Streetfighter X Tekken, honestly. But still, Capcom USA should fix this matter asap, or risk quite a bit of bad will from gamers. Angry mobs are never a good thing.

Zombies Ate My Horse!!!

Posted in Action Adventure, DLC, PS3, Read Dead Redemption, Shooters, Xbox360 on October 1, 2010 by thelonegamer

The Wild West just got rabid.

I’ve been hearing all sorts of awesome things about Rockstar’s western epic, Red Dead Redemption, but for some reason I’ve always put off getting my own copy. Well, that looks set to change with the coming of the Undead Nightmare DLC. The zombies just look freakin’ scary, and that has me sold. Nothing better than gatlin’ gunning your way out of a horde of biters. As soon as this expansion drops, I’ll probably rustle my copy of RDR… if I can pull myself away from playing multiplayer on Uncharted 2 (hey, I’m a late bloomer). For now, check out the cool as heck debut trailer… with ZOMBIES!

Eurogamer Interviews Yoshinori Ono on Streetfighter X Tekken

Eurogamer just posted a quite meaty interview with Capcom’s Streetfighter Boss, Yoshinori Ono. This was apparently done some time ago, in fact during the time of the last Comicon, so don’t expect too much new stuff. Still, the questions asked are pretty good and the answers not too evasive. Anyway, us game fans probably want every scrap of into on the upcoming “Fighting Game Festival” that we can grab.
Ono-san talks about Streetfighter X Tekken, the future of Streetfighter IV, its arcade and mobile incarnations and the future of the fighting genre in general. Check it out here.

New Trailers for SSFIV show off Yun and Yang, Alternate Costumes

The Kung-fu Hustlers make their public debut.

During last weekend’s TGS2010, quite a few vids were released by Capcom of the upcoming Super Streetfighter IV Arcade Edition, with new characters Yun and Yang finally being announced (even if we’ve known about them for about a month prior).

The World Warriors show off their new duds.

But while the additional fighters are as yet arcade-only, us home gamers can look forward to the new 3rd Alternate Outfits for the existing roster on consoles, featured in the cool trailer above. The costumes should be coming this Autumn, around October or November, according to Yoshinori Ono’s Twitter. Just a month or so and you’ll be able to play as Sun Dress Sakura, Alpha Chun-li, Schoolgirl Makoto, Demon Akuma, Flamenco Vega and more.
