Gazing Into My Crystal Ball: Future Fighting on NGP

Posted in Fighting Games, Game Advertising, Game-related Events, Gaming, My Stuff, Next Generation Portable, Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown on January 27, 2011 by thelonegamer

I’ll just throw this one into the air. Pure speculation on my part.

Sega will announce Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown for Sony’s Next Generation Portable.

Sega is a third party dev for the system, and NGP needs solid fighters to make up the lineup of games, like how the 3DS already has SSFIV, DOA and Blazblue off the bat. One of the titles in the NGP’s lineup of launch titles is something called ‘Reality Fighters’, but that’s certainly not to the level of any big fighting game.

One more guess. Namco-Bandai will port a Tekken title on the Next Gen Portable as well. I’d be happy with an arcade-or-console-perfect port of Tekken 6, but perhaps going further maybe it’ll be a port of the upcoming Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Or maybe even Tekken X Streetfighter. Either it’ll be an actual version specific to the NGP, or the PS3 titles will be compatible on the portable system.

These are just guesses/wishes/hopes on my part. I just really, really, really want a home verson of VF5FS already. And my Tekken fix as well. If these do happen, remember, you read about them first HERE.

Moving on…

New VF5 Final Showdown Screens!

Posted in Arcade, Fighting Games, Game-related Events, Gaming, Virtua Fighter, Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown on September 12, 2010 by thelonegamer

It’s Owen Wilson!

Andriasang just posted a gallery of newly-released screens and pics from Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown. What’s the use of scoping out these images from a Japanese arcade-only title? Well, in case you haven’t heard, there’s a little chance that a home port may be forthcoming thanks to Sega recently registering the name ‘Final Showdown’ for consoles. Maybe- just maybe- we’ll hear something soon. Perhaps this coming TGS? I’m crossing my fingers… this hot brawler should be THE 3D fighter to keep us all occupied, busy and entertained as we await the next wave of big fighters that are, as yet, a couple of years away. Anyway, we can dream, can’t we? A console port of VF5FS would be damn awesome, so I am imploring Sega once again… cough it up!!!
For now, check out the screens here in full resolution. Oh, and it’s all about Aoi and her sarong. Heh.

Sarah Bryant’s new kimono is sexy in its teasing concealment.

Her ‘S’ bikini leaves nothing to the imagination, though.

Sega Registers ‘Final Showdown’ Trademark for Consoles: VF5FS Coming Home?

Posted in Fighting Games, Game-related Events, Gaming, PS3, Virtua Fighter, Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, Xbox360 on September 8, 2010 by thelonegamer

VF5FS coming to consoles? Please let it be so!

From a thread originally posted on SRK, a kernel of hope for fighting game fans pining for Sega’s Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown to come home may have appeared. Apparently according to Japanese game site Game Nyarth, Sega has trademarked ‘Final Showdown’ for consoles. What does this mean? Well, the most obvious being that this may signify some intention by the Japanese game developer to release something called ‘Final Showdown’ on PS3 or Xbox360. Either it’s indeed a port or such of VF5FS or… another game named Final Showdown. What do you guys think?

Me? I’m freakin’ hoping for the freaking former. I want VF5FS playing on my console(s) in the near future. With a brand new resurgence of fighting games and as yet a vacancy in the field of any new 3D fighters (with the next Tekken, SF, their Crossovers and SoulCalibur not due for at least a year or two), it’s a great chance for Sega’s fighter to be top dog in the beat ’em up limelight in the meantime.

Come on, Sega. Make it happen. Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown for consoles. COME ON. Hopefully there will be more info, or at least a bit more hope, with the upcoming TGS 2010. More as we get it then…

VF5 Final Showdown Released in Japan

The gang’s all here for the last round of VF5 fighting.

Yesterday saw the general release in Japanese arcades of Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, which should be the last update in this chapter of Sega’s fighting franchise. New gameplay mechanics, new fighting moves, redone stages, new music, more sexy costumes and more freedom in composing those outfits and customizations are in store for arcade players in Nippon. If you see fighters duking it out in bikinis or Speedos, it’s not DOA, but VF people… how the world has changed!

Anyway, sadly this is still just Japanese arcades only. Though we’ve heard some encouraging words, we’re still waiting with bated breath for a console release of this gorgeous fighter. Really, with both Namco-Bandai and Capcom’s next fighters not due out until a couple of years from now, it’s to Sega’s advantage to release VF5FS on PS3 or Xbox360 and be THE shiny new 3D fighting game out. This is really a hot game and I would give a lot to see this on my TV in full HD. Let’s keep crossing our fingers.

New VF5FS Trailer, Twitter Support Revealed

More teasing from Sega…

Here’s the latest trailer for the upcoming as-yet-arcade-only fighting upgrade, Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown. This is pretty much just a slickly-edited pre-rendered movie showing off the characters facing off and doing some fancy new moves as opposed to actual in-game footage, but it’s quite exciting. There are hints of some cool new maneuvers like Vanessa’s new lie down stance being able to counter pounces, new wall throws and more stuff that the real hardcore should pick up after some repeated views. The water effects are kinda funny- man, do those VF folks sweat a lot! Sadly there’s still no word of a console port, but I think it’s only a matter of time. As of now though, the announcement is that the arcade version (Japan only) will have Twitter support, allowing Japanese players to post victories and win streaks over the social network directly from the game. Wowee.

Anyway, check out the cool HD trailer for now. More on this as we get it. A console port HAS to be in the works, somehow. Keep the faith, people!

VF5 Final Showdown Trailer, Customization Info

The VF crew show off their new moves in the latest trailer.

Sega has just released another trailer for their upcoming upgrade to Virtua Fighter 5. The latest installment, which I assume is also the last for this chapter of the series, is Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown. Though lacking any new additions to the roster, FS will feature a bunch of new stuff, including new moves and animations for all the existing characters, new gameplay tweaks to the characters’ fighting styles, new looks to the stages and of course, more freedom in customizing the fighters.

In the case of the customization, FS will introduce a new ‘S’ outfit which will basically be a swimsuit or something equally skimpy. Once unlocked, you can use pretty much any combination of items, tops or bottoms from any of the existing costume sets. Of course, you can probably also just keep the S outfit as it is, since a bikini is obviously one of the most practical things to wear in a fight. Anyway, the VF blog posted a peek at one of these S outfits, for none other than VF5’s monkey-style kung-fu girl, Eileen. Eye-catching, to say the least.

The Good News: The girls finally show off more skin with their ‘S’ outfits. The Bad? The guys will probably show off even more.

Still no word on whether Final Showdown will make it on consoles, but I have a good feeling this will come shortly. Perhaps we may hear something to this effect at E3? Cross your fingers… the future of fighting games starts here. Now then, where are my bikini-clad Tekken girls, Namco-Bandai?

More VF5: Final Showdown Details?

Posted in Arcade, Fighting Games, Game-related Events, Gaming, Virtua Fighter on May 17, 2010 by thelonegamer

Versus City just posted some info on the upcoming VF upgrade, Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown. The information is from what seems to be a leaked pamphlet online. Anyway, VF5FS’s features include a ‘dramatic’ change and refinement to the game’s base fighting system, New Costumes (and no restrictions in composing your outfit), Graphical improvements to the UI and stages, more specialization of various characters to their forte (for example, Akira’s strength will be in crushing single blows), a Revamped Single Player mode and easier-to-earn New Items.

For all the info, check out VC’s original post here. Sounds really cool, for an upgrade- here’s to a console release announcement coming as well in the near future. No release date yet for VF5FS, but playtesting is expected to start very soon.

Keeping Hope Alive for Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown

Posted in Arcade, Fan Service, Fighting Games, Game-related Events, Gaming, My Stuff, Virtua Fighter on May 14, 2010 by thelonegamer

State of the art brawling and hot bikinis. Yes, we WANT VF5FS.

Some time ago, a petition asking Sega of Japan to bring Virtua Fighter 5R to consoles outside of Japan was started by fight fans over at VFDC. A whole lot of fight fans, and not just VF enthusiasts, chimed in to let Sega’s big bosses know that there are gamers outside of their country who are starved for the latest and greatest Virtua Fighter sequels and willing to go some lengths to play it. Till now, Sega has inexplicably left their flagship fighter seemingly rudderless for the international market, with VF5R just available in Japanese arcades.

When Sega announced the latest and last VF5 upgrade, Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, of course the petition changed gears to ask for THIS instead. In any case, apparently the voices of gaijin gamers has reached some ears within Sega. According to the VFDC forums, the latest posts over at the official Sega VF5 blog/webpage mention that the appeals have reached the game makers of VF, and are supposedly ‘moved’ by the interest in their game.

One statement, from a designer named Igami, says, “I will try my best in making a game that can fulfil the expectations of VF players both domestic and international”.

Does this bode well for a console release of VF5FS? Perhaps. In any case, if FS indeed is the last itineration of VF5, a console release of this upgrade, with new moves, techniques, tactics and tons of new customizations, would be logical. And potentially lucrative, giving that the fighting genre has recently had a resurgence, yet is not by any means bursting with much competition. SSFIV has released, with only MvC3 coming- no Tekken or Soulcalibur sequel has yet been announced. VF5FS may have some time all to itself, if Sega moves fast enough.

Keep your fingers crossed and keep hoping people. We could all be Virtua Fighting again in the near future. More as I get it.

Virtua Fighter 5: Streetfighter Edition!

Posted in Fan Service, Fighting Games, Game-related Events, Gaming, Virtua Fighter on March 31, 2010 by thelonegamer

See it to believe it.

Hey, ever wondered what Street Fighter would look like if Capcom actually ditched the stylized approach and made the characters look more realistic? Well, it would look like the video above! And you know what? Now I’m thinking that Capcom should hire some Sega guys for Streetfighter V. Well, for better or worse, the trailer above, which was actually released by Sega themselves and downloadable at the VF5 website, is apparently just a little April Fools’ joke, with VF giving a little laugh at themselves and the competition (notably SF and Tekken). It’s nice, but there is a bit of truth to every joke, eh? Man, how awesome would it be to have a more photo-realistic Ryu, Chun-li or Cammy in a future SF? On the flip side, giving the VF crew some chi-powers and fireballs actually doesn’t look all that bad either… heheh.

Haha, funny, Sega. Now, if you’ve got time for little jokes, how ’bout putting some time into VF5FS’s console version..? Eh?

Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown Unveiled at AOU!

Posted in Fighting Games, Game-related Events, Gaming, Virtua Fighter on February 19, 2010 by thelonegamer

SCREW VF5R!!! I want THIS on my console NOW!!!

Some HOT fighting game news from Andriasang at the ongoing AOU 2010 show. Apparently Sega has just revealed a new entry in the Virtua Fighter series. No, it’s not VF6- this is still apparently within the VF5 chapter. The new upgrade is ominously titled Virtua Fighter 5: The Final Showdown.

Little can be gleaned though from this new game’s trailer. While there are so far no new faces aside from the VF5R debutantes (Jean Kujo and Taka-arashi). However, what is confirmed is the addition of new moves and animations for the fighters, as well as new costumes (including, in case you missed it from the vid, BIKINIS…Oh MY!). Also, VF5R players can transfer their stuff- from battle records to Fight Money, customizations and costumes- over to the new game as well. No word yet on exact new features of this new chapter in Sega’s flagship fighter.

So… what does this mean for us poor gaijin hoping for a VF5R on console? Man, all I can say is, I don’t want VF5R anymore. I. Want. THIS..

God damn. Sega, PLEASE bring this to consoles. PLEASE. PLEASE. More on this as I get it.
