Musing About Tekken 6: Two Months To Go!

Posted in Fighting Games, My Stuff, PS3, PSP, Tekken, Tekken 6, Xbox360 on August 31, 2009 by thelonegamer

Okay, I don’t have too much to say in terms of news of new stuff (aside from that the Official Japanese Tekken 6 Site has updated with some stuff). I just merely wanted to point out that it’s freakin’ September, finally, and that means we’re now solidly two months away from the console release of our most awaited fighting game, Tekken 6. That’s less than 60 days, eight weeks, four pay days away. Two months can pass incredibly fast, but sadly for us fans who wait day by day for something upcoming, it all passes by so painfully slow. Still, what can we do but keep soldiering on, taking in every little snippet of news, every little tidbit doled out, every screenshot or video posted online.

From here on in, there are still some things to look forward to. There may be something to the upcoming PAX Gaming Event, but I’m inclined more to waiting for the Tokyo Game Show, later this month, which may hopefully show off a trailer and more footage. The Namco-Bandai/Gametrailers online tournament has seemingly fizzled out, but we should always keep our eyes on the official US game site for some surprises.

On my end, I have to apologize for the lack of updates recently with the Tekken Fan Manga- my scanner got busted and I haven’t had time to have it fixed. Till then, that will be on hold. Still, I’ll try my best to keep updating here on the main site with whatever I can to make the wait a li’l but easier to bear. We’re closing in on our destination though, dudes- we can see it on the horizon. Just a little bit more.

New Tekken 6 Preview, Promo Video

Asuka falls for Lili’s Imp Shorts Item Move.

Japanese gaming sites Famitsu and 4Gamer.Net just posted cool previews of the upcoming home versions of Tekken 6. The lengthy article talks a bit about the default Arcade Mode and the new elements of gameplay such as Bound, Rage and Item Moves. There are then some cool new screenshots and some character bios (with accompanying CG portraits) to round things out.

Here’s a look at the Japanese Collector’s Edition Package. I WANT THAT ART BOOK…

Also included is a new PV or promotional video. The vid is mostly stuff seen before, but there are bits of new footage of combos and the Scenario Mode in action, all with your usual enthusiastic Japanaese announcer and lots of kanji supers flying around. Still worth seeing, in any case… check it all out here and here.

District 9

Saw the Peter Jackson-produced sci-fi thriller District 9 finally. This film has been hyped a lot recently by rave reviews, and certainly it is not undeserved. The story is gripping and the production and special effects pretty amazing. Very atmospheric and intense, with some pretty gruesome stuff and splattery death all over by the second half… which is pretty cool. Heheh…

It’s pretty easy to see how this film could have been the now-derailed Halo film, with the alien ‘Prawns’ looking something like the Covenant. Seeing the pretty awesome action at the end, with superweapons and mech suits running wild give a bit of a hint at what a movie based on Master Chief could have been. Maybe in another life.
But in any case, District 9’s a pretty great sci-fi action-thriller- catch it in the theater if you can, dudes.

Tekken 6 Blog: ‘Unlocking Characters’ Issue Explained

Posted in Fan Service, Fighting Games, Game-related Events, Gaming, PS3, PSP, Tekken, Tekken 6, Xbox360 on August 26, 2009 by thelonegamer

Tekken 6 game director Katsuhiro Harada finally updates his personal blog over at IGN! This time he takes up a majority of the post clarifying things about some words he said some time ago about how ‘unlocking characters is outdated’. Well, apparently the media jumped all over his words, blowing them out of context and proportion and causing quite a bit of controversy. Harada-san sets the record straight with what he really meant.

Aside from that, there’s just a couple more things- that the game development’s now coming into ‘crunch time’ (well, it’s about time) and that Harada-san seems very interested in working with other fighting game franchises. Tekken VS Virtua Fighter, anyone? Let the Man Know! Check out Harada’s blog here.

Tekken 6 is set for release on PS3, Xbox360 and PSP this October 2009.

‘J VS B’ Revealed: Tekken 6 Direct-feed Match Videos

Posted in Fan Service, Game Advertising, Game-related Events, Gaming, PS3, PSP, Tekken, Tekken 6, Xbox360 on August 25, 2009 by thelonegamer

SD-Tekken and Namco Bandai have revealed their latest marketing gimmick for the upcoming Tekken 6. Teased since last week, it has turned out, as expected, to be several match videos between high-level Tekken players Jimmy “MrNAPS” Tran and Bronson “insanelee” Tran (J VS B), with each one representing either SD-Tekken and Tekken Zaibatsu (aren’t they one and the same?). The matches are direct-feed recordings from the console versions. so I guess this is a good way to see how nicely the conversion has come along. An extra schtick is that fans and viewers on SD-Tekken can apparently vote for which character ‘Insanelee’ will select for the upcoming rematch.

Well, just seeing the video quality of the home versions is the only value for me- The characters used aren’t my favorites to watch and they’re not even customized. Plus, I’m not really one to care about other players’ skills- I just want to play myself. The stuff I really want to see are the customizations, the Story mode, the Scenario Campaign, prologues, cutscenes… everything but this. Oh well. I guess this is something to see to pass the time… Check the matches out. Tekken 6 is set for release on PS3, Xbox360 and PSP this October 2009.

Tekken 6 ‘Video Project’ Coming Soon

Recently, Namco-Bandai’s official Tekken 6 Twitter, TekkenBob, has been teasing at something called ‘J vs B’. Supposedly coming to Youtube this week, this mysterious title has gotten Tekken-heads all over speculating. Well, part of the mystery has been lifted today, with this tweet from T-Bob:

It turns out J vs. B is a big video project from Namco. I caught a sneak peek of some direct capture being taken from Tekken 6. Coming soon!

Here’s additional ‘info’ on this from the official Tekken Facebook page…

“J vs. B”, our secret video project, is coming up soon. For those of you that have wanted a chance to see more of the console version of Tekken 6, we’re about to bring you brand new video content… with a twist! Stay tuned.

Console video content with a twist, eh? Well, all we can do is wait and see. Tomorrow isn’t that far off now, is it? More as we get it.

Waiting for Knightfall

My copy of Batman: Arkham Asylum just shipped out. Man, I love Play-Asia! WOOHOO! If all goes well, my game should arrive at my door sometime tomorrow. FedEx was fast, and usually arrived just before lunch… UPS is slightly slower, but still should deliver. Heheh.

Should be busting heads and saving the people of Gotham by tomorrow night, hopefully. Sweet!
