Happy Halloween Gaming!

Posted in Action Adventure, DLC, Fan Service, Gaming, My Stuff, PS3, Read Dead Redemption, Undead Nightmare on October 30, 2010 by thelonegamer

Hey there, everyone. It’s the Witching Hour here, so I should get some shut-eye soon… but darn, I’m still wide awake after playing a couple of hours of Red Dead Redemption. That’s the regular RDR mode, albeit I’ve already installed my newly-purchased Undead Nightmare DLC. Strange is, I only got RDR recently, and now I’m enjoying playing it. Heck, I may just have to play through a lot of it in regular mode before I switch to UN. I mean, there’s a lot of referential stuff that you’ll probably enjoy more in UN if you play through RDR first. The good news is, it’s not really a chore at all- living life through John Marston’s boots is pretty awesome. It’s literally living every Western Movie I’ve ever watched.

Anyway, I’m enjoying the long weekend break. Should be able to play a lot more games before the good times end. Everyone, enjoy yourselves and stay safe. Happy Halloween!

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Update

Posted in Fan Service, Fighting Games, PS3, Tekken, Tekken 6, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Xbox360 on October 29, 2010 by thelonegamer

Versus City just posted an update about the next Tekken game. The latest issue of Arcadia Magazine in Japan has a short article on the game, which includes an interview with series producer Katsuhiro Harada. The info isn’t exactly that mind-blowing; the roster will not go below what’s already there at present (the roster in Tekken 6), walls will be in the game as the devs want elements from Tekken 4 onwards to be incorporated in the game, plus overall the game should have a ‘festive’ feel. Anyway, read the whole article here.

Anyway, on the Twitter front Harada has also teased that the team is considering adding a Story Mode into TTT2. The game will be at 720p and 60fps, just like Tekken 6 (no 1080p for us). The game will be able to support up to 4 characters at once onscreen, but what conditions will have everyone onscreen at the same time? Man, that’s gonna be crazy.

That’s it for now. More as it arrives, then.

Get ’em while they’re hot!

The first batch of alternate outfits for Super Streetfighter IV are apparently now available online! You can check out the goods in advance in the video above, showing off Mak, Hakan, Dudley, Deejay and Guy in their new costumes. Me, I’m liking how fetching Makoto is in her school uniform. Nice!

Puzzle Quest HD on iPad

Posted in Gaming, iGaming, iPad, iPhone, Mobile Games, My Stuff, RPGs on October 27, 2010 by thelonegamer

Conquering the kingdom one gem at a time… in High Resolution.

Puzzle Quest is not a new game. In fact, it’s a couple of years old and has come out on a horde of platforms. However, the classic formula of mixing Bejeweled with an RPG just works incredibly well, and no matter how many times this game is resurrected, it seems that fans will always be willing to check it out. I already played this a bit on PSP, bought the iPhone version, but it really took the recently-released iPad version, Puzzle Quest HD, to get me playing this for hours and hours.

Yeah, sad to say, I never really progressed that much in the iPhone game- I could never really play too long since the battery would drain quicker than a your life bar after a particularly lucky enemy combo. It was also draining on my admittedly unfit eyes, staring at a tiny screen, trying to match gems and skulls in an attempt to win the deadly jewel duel. Another major complaint with the iPhone version was frequent bugs with the save files, with much-beloved heroes inexplicably disappearing, wasting hours and hours of grinding time and hard-won battles. Fortunately I never experienced losing a save, but that was poor consolation.

Thankfully now I can play to my heart’s content (or, at least, the length of the iPad’s prodigious battery life) and easily enjoy the lush, sharp visuals on the tablet’s larger real estate.

And so where am I now? My wizard is 16th level, Knight of the realm yet oddly enough ruler of my own little empire of several subjugated cities. Just beat a damn tough boss, and now I’m raring for more. All thanks to HD, baby.

At about $4.99, the iPad version gives you high-res visuals and all the additional content over the original game (that’s three episodes, as far as I know), so this is by far the best version to get. It looks, plays and sounds awesome, and pretty much has conquered my iPad as my most-played game now. This game just never gets old. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I got some giant rats to challenge…

The Playstation Phone, for Real!

Posted in Game-related Events, Gaming, Mobile Games on October 27, 2010 by thelonegamer

Yet another potentially awesome mobile gaming platform is arriving soon.

Engadget just posted pics of what is supposedly the real deal- A Playstation Phone. The pic above is of a prototype produced by Sony Ericsson, and will run on the Android platform. No analog nubs, instead we get a multitouch pad in between the d-pad and the customary PS buttons. The thing unsurprisingly does not support UMDs or Memory Sticks, but has a Micro-SD slot.

We’ve really heard little about any games for this new Playstation-branded device, but hopefully a strong lineup should appear as it approaches release. Not really thinking this a replacement for my iPhone or iPad as a gaming device or a mobile companion yet… but a strong lineup of games (hopefully including some titles rhyming with Smekken or Petal Ear) may make this a gamer’s phone of choice. This is due out perhaps late 2010 or early 2011.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Test Play Videos Soon?

Posted in Arcade, Fan Service, Fighting Games, Game Advertising, Game-related Events, Gaming, PS3, Tekken, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Xbox360 on October 22, 2010 by thelonegamer

On Tekkenmeister Katsuhiro Harada’s Twitter and Facebook pages have been posted an intriguing bit, teasing that he’ll be recording (and we assume, showing off) test play footage of his upcoming Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Just how much footage, and which fighters he’ll be using, are of course, unknown. When will we be seeing the goods? According to Harada he may be bringing the TTT2 peek at an upcoming Major League Gaming (MLG) Event, which should be within the next couple of weeks. Hopefully he’ll give us all a peek sooner than later.

It’s also been some time since SD-Tekken’s intriguing post about something big being unveiled that will be amazing for fighting games (and gaming in general). What could all this be? Teases, teases, so many teases! Anyway, I’ll be keeping my eyes out. Even if I really, really, really need a long nap. More as we get it, then.

The Long Weekend Gamer

Posted in Gaming, My Stuff on October 22, 2010 by thelonegamer

Things have been pretty slow lately- well, in gaming. Truth is, work at the day job has been pretty hectic, leaving little time for me to raise controller. Fortunately, this weekend is an extended one, so I’ll hopefully be able to log in some quality time in with Dead Rising 2 at least, where I’ve been stumped in a boss fight, fighting not just some tough psychos but a running time limit- the fault of my own dilly-dallying instead of giving priority to finishing the case. Oh well. Worse comes to worse I can just restart the story- which places me back at the beginning but at least lets me keep my accumulated levels, skills and augmented Chuck Greene.

That aside, updates in other games I’ve hot for, such as the Fighting Festival series (SFxT, TxSF, TTT2), have been scarce as of late. I’m interested in the new (and just released) Fallout: New Vegas and the soon-to-be-released Fable III. I wonder if I should spring for these right away? And will I be able to resist getting Red Dead Redemption with the Undead Nightmare DLC? Hmmm.

On the other hand, I can just blow the entire weekend and just sleep the whole time. That’s a good option too. Heh. We’ll see whatever works out.

Cowboys vs Ninjas Movie!

Posted in Action Adventure, Movies, My Stuff on October 19, 2010 by thelonegamer

Looks freakin’ awesome.

Here’s the trailer to the upcoming hack-and-slash-and-shoot fantasy action-adventure flick The Warrior’s Way, starring Geoffrey Rush (that’s Barbossa from Pirates of the Carribbean), Kate Bosworth and South Korean superstar Jang Dong Gun. The film is being produced by Barrie Osborne, who also produced the Lord of the Rings trilogy, so it’s sure to look pretty slick.

The trailer is hot stuff, with armies of flying ninja, gun-toting cowboys, surreal landscapes, and slow-mo swordfights. This came out of nowhere and looks pretty fantastic. Hopefully there’s a strong narrative to back up the great visuals and action.

Jang Dong Gun stars as Yang, a master warrior-turned-renegade who comes to the American badlands in order to flee his past. In a ramshackle town he meets an old drunk (Rush) and a circus knife-thrower (Bosworth), both of whom aren’t what they first appear to be.

Intriguing and exciting- even if it kinda has a similar vibe to the also upcoming Priest (must be the cowboy hats). I’ll be sure to check this one out. This is due out in December.

GET OVER HERE and Watch this New MK Trailer!

Posted in Fan Service, Fighting Games, Gaming, Mortal Kombat, PS3, Xbox360 on October 18, 2010 by thelonegamer

The yellow ninja’s story is one of joy and familial love. Not.

One of the hot fighters coming in the near future is a new and re-brutalized Mortal Kombat. With a bloody new look, a new fighting system, gory fatalities and more, this looks to be MK done right after a long time of doing wrong. The latest trailer is a character-centric spot, which may be the first of many. So, care to know the origin of the notorious yellow-garbed ninja?

Tekken Tweets: The Latest from Harada-san!

Posted in Extra Costumes, Fan Service, Fighting Games, Game Advertising, Game-related Events, Gaming, PS3, Tekken, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Xbox360 on October 17, 2010 by thelonegamer

This weekend passes with no new trailers of vids from any of the upcoming games in the Fighting Festival series (SFxT, TxSF, TTT2), but as usual Namco-Bandai’s Katsuhiro Harada was manning his Twitter account to answer some of the gazillion questions, requests, challenges and so forth tweeted his way by Tekken-loving (or hating) Twitteratti. The most noteworthy answers from Harada-san were the following…

… liked Azazel? I didn’t think so. Well, the good news is that Tekken 6’s ovesized and overpowered boss is, according to Harada-san, DEAD. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will have a new boss. Hopefully Harada was joking though when he mentioned Devil Ganryu.

… when asked if Lars will become evil, Harada said ‘probably not’- the guy doesn’t have a Devil Gene unlike Heihachi. A bit of inconsistency here- I was of the perception that Heihachi’s whole schtick with wanting to capture Kazuya and Jin was that he didn’t have the DG himself as well. Oh well, details, details. Anyway, from this I gather that Mr. Alexandersson will continue to be Tekken’s resident white knight and ladies man- both of which Jin Kazama would never aspire to.

… once again, Character Customization is confirmed for Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

… on the next Soulcalibur, Harada has stated that the Project Soul team ‘wants to make a new SC’, and has thanked gamers for the petition. Now, all we can do is wait.

Man, not a lot of stuff. But I guess knowing that the Big Cheap Chicken is dead and gone makes my day. Heheh… Anwyay, back to Dead Rising 2 then…
