Super Streetfighter IV: Lotsa Anime Cutscenes!

FOUR HOURS???!

According to Hadoken.net, which seems to have become the equivalent of SD-Tekken for Streetfighter, the upcoming pseudo sequel to SFIV, Super Streetfighter IV, will feature a lot of anime cutscenes. How much is a lot? FOUR HOURS, apparently, according to stats from the BBFC (The UK equivalent of the ESRB).

A breakdown of the supposed footage goes like this- the Attract Mode or Intro runs at 3 minutes and 12 seconds. In total, the Character Prologue and Epilogue movies run about 2 hours and 55 minutes, while the Rival/Boss intros total about 1 hour and 6 minutes. If you take into consideration that the game will have about 35 characters in total, that runs to about 5 minutes of anime footage per fighter, with boss/rival intros running at about 1.8 minutes- I guess these fighters have a lot of issues to work out with each other. You can check out Hadoken.net’s full article here.

Anyway, this all sounds pretty awesome, if it’s all true. The first 3D SF was quite soundly bashed by fans and gamers for the absolute crappiness of the anime-style intros and endings, and apparently Ono and company took this to heart. Not only will SSFIV feature much higher-quality anime scenes, it will have a ton more (about three times more) of them as well. Man, I guess griping a lot really does result in good stuff. Heheh…

With tons of new content like additional fighters, more alternate costumes, new moves, stages and now, tons of anime scenes, Super Streetfighter IV looks to be one awesome, fan-servicey beat ’em up package when it ships this coming Spring 2010 for the PS3 and Xbox360. More as we get it.

  1. I wish Tekken 6 had this many cutscenes…

    • Actually, Tekken 6 has MORE, considering all the scenes and interludes in Scenario Campaign PLUS all the character ending CGs. Only time will tell if SSFIV’s cutscenes will be 4 hours of awesomeness or 4 hours of crap (probably a mix of both). We’ll just have to wait and see.

  2. Yeah, but all the SC scenes focus on a single character I’m disliking more and more. The best you can hope for is a brief interaction with a character you know.
