Playing Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny…

Last Sunday, I was finally able to get my PSP fixed, and since then I’ve been playing Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny on it. What can I say? For starters, really, the game looks fantastic. It really does a good job of bringing the graphical finery based on the console SCIV to the smaller screen, with lovely detail and almost flawlessly smooth animations. In all, I have no complaints about how the game looks and moves.

In terms of modes though, I can’t say that I am not disappointed by the lack of a proper Story Mode, or any regular ladder up tourney where you make your way to the boss. Even if they just ported the SCIV endings, or heck, if they did funny illustration-only endings, it would have been okay. The absence of such a main mode makes BD feel… incomplete.

That said, as a PSP game you just pick up and get into, the Quick Match option is about as direct as it gets- I just wish it was structured more like Tekken 5DR’s Ghost Battle where you just continue on to the next opponent once you win, or fight again if you lose. I find the need to go back to the ‘lobby’ or not having the option to have a ready rematch with the opponent who just whupped your arse tedious.

And DAMN, do a lot of these A.I. bastards kick my ass! I have to confess though- Soulcalibur really isn’t my main game. I love it, love the graphics, storyline and character, and I always play it, but I never really got into SC’s game system, or combos. I just dabble, knowing how to Guard Impact and do basic combos, but the deepness of the game’s combo system doesn’t hook me enough… and it doesn’t help that the Practice mode is not good at all. That said, I am finding it very difficult to break these seemingly unending combos by these A.I. opponents, I guess a mark of my naivete of the game.

But man, I have to say Kratos is a cheap, overpowered son of a bitch. Really.

When all’s said and done though, I have to say that Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny is on permanent stay in my PSP, along with Tekken 6 when the portable version arrives. Awesome, totally awesome.

  1. Lol, project Soul sucks at guest characters.

  2. Kratos is my main and yeah he is f**king cheap

out of the subject, WTH happened the your manga!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Ok! Do you plan on continuing it after the release? I’m sure you’ll be busy for a good long time once we get the game, but…?

    • To tell you the truth, I only intended to do the manga as something to pass the time till release. If people want to, I can always just continue or keep doing it as a regular thing indefinitely. We’ll see, dude.
