Tekken 6 Character Countdown Part 39: Alisa Bosconovitch

Alisa Bosconovitch: More than meets the eye.

As a way of counting down the time to the release of Tekken 6 for the PS3 and Xbox360, I’ve decided to begin this weekly series of lengthy, character-specific articles, each one featuring one of the competing warriors in the latest and greatest King of Iron Fist Tournament.

Number 40 brings us to yet another fighter who has just joined the roster in the most recent chapter of the Tekken saga. This beautiful combatant bears the name of a longtime character, but aside from that her past and background are a mystery. Perhaps the finest example of the old saying that looks can be deceiving, this young woman is not so much a fighter as she is a weapon. She’s the super-powered killer robot in disguise, Tekken’s Real Doll… Alisa Bosconovitch.

Alisa Bosconovitch (UPDATED!)
Distinguishing Features: A lovely, pink-haired and petite young lady with an ever-tranquil, smiling face. Effervescent politeness and cheerfulness with every word, even when threatening. Flowers. Attachments and wardrobe stolen from the set of Bubblegum Crisis.

Strengths: Very easy to underestimate. Many confusing and highly-damaging moves. Quick jabs and easy combos. Flight ability. Retractable chainsaws blades and explosives. Nano-regeneration. In short, a LOT stronger than she looks.

Weaknesses: Chainsaw combos aren’t as effective as you’d think, and stance changes tend to leave her vulnerable. Naive as a two year old girl.

Affiliation: Seemingly aligned with Lars Alexandersson’s rebel faction, placing her in conflict with the Mishima Zaibatsu.

Background: As the war between the Mishima Zaibatsu and various organizations led by G-Corporation began to envelope the globe, each side unleashed their most deadly weapons into the fray.
In a heavily-defended research installation bearing the name of the scientific genius Dr. Gepetto Bosconovitch lay a glass tube, in which slept a beautiful young woman. Her name is Alisa… who or what is she?

As revealed in the Scenario Campaign Storyline in Tekken 6, Alisa was discovered by Lars Alexandersson during his infiltration of a Zaibatsu facility. After an attack by G-Corporation’s Jack robots injured Lars and caused him temporary amnesia, Alisa was awakened and both immediately found themselves fighting together against attacks from all sides. Alisa served as Lars’ constant companion and ally as he fought to regain his memory and eventually renew his resistance against Jin Kazama and the Mishima Zaibatsu.
It is eventually revealed that Alisa was created on the orders of Jin Kazama as CEO of the Mishima Zaibatsu, and was therefore obligated to follow his orders. Thereafter, Lars was forced to see his former ally (and apparent new love interest?) as a deadly foe.
At the climax of the Scenario Campaign, Alisa and Lars fight one last time, and Lars emerges triumphant. Alisa regains her true personality before apparently shutting down permanently, giving Lars even more drive to defeat Jin Kazama and see through his quest to the end.

After the crisis with Jin and the demon Azazel is resolved, Lars took Alisa over to Lee Chaolan’s robotics lab to repair and restore her. Completing all stages of Scenario Campaign reveals a final entry of Alisa’s Journal that reveals that Lee is successfully able to restore Alisa fully with her memory intact. In her Story Mode ending in the PSP version of Tekken 6, it is revealed that Alisa joins Lars in his newly-formed Private Military Corporation, known as Yddgrassil.

Character Analysis: The newest babe to join the Tekken 6 roster, Alisa is certainly a likable character from the get-go, melding innocence and naivete with a strong sense of justice. Though she is plainly a robot or android, she does say with conviction that she is ‘human’. Indeed, her personality and deeds show she is often more capable of being humane and human than other flesh-and-blood fighters in the roster.
Designed very much to be an easy fighter to pick up, Alisa can kick ass pretty handily with quite a few powerful moves, though her true potency surfaces if you really know her arsenal. I find her really entertaining to watch in combat, despite a somewhat awkward or unusual stance and some oddly-feeble looking punches and kicks. She’s a great addition to the roster, regardless of how many nay-sayers feel about her.

What does the future hold for the prettiest robot in the history of Tekken? Surely Alisa will be around no matter how much time passes in between now and the next installment of Tekken. It will be interesting to see how her relationship with Lars continues in the next Tekken games, and how this lovely young lady will grow and go further with lots more input…

Tekken 6 is out now on PS3, Xbox360 and PSP.
