Tekken 6 Character Countdown Part 20: Leo

Maybe male. Maybe female. Definitely kick-ass.

As a way of counting down the time to the release of Tekken 6 for the PS3 and Xbox360, I’ve decided to begin this weekly series of lengthy, character-specific articles, each one featuring one of the 40 or so competing warriors in the latest and greatest King of Iron Fist Tournament. Hopefully, by the time we finish and reach character number 40, we’ll have the console version of Tekken in our hands already.

And we’ve come to Number 20! We’re halfway to our much-awaited console Tekken 6, people… well, probably. More or less. Maybe. Or not.

Part 20 brings us to one of the newest additions to the Tekken roster- one of the new faces who debuted in the original arcade version of Tekken 6. This somewhat mysterious fighter holds a deep secret… a secret that holds to this day. Just what is this formidable Ba Ji Quan practicioner really? Is he really a he, or is he… a she? Well, obviously we’re talking about the Androgynous German beauty, Leo.

Leo
Distinguishing Features: Blonde hair cut boyishly short. A much-too-pretty face. Mannish suits, lots of leather and straps, heavy gloves and shoulder pads. Smells really nice.

Strengths: Lots of fast, strong combos and multi-hits, stunning blows that strike high and low. Very little lag or recovery in between moves. Designed to be very easy to pick up and kick butt with.

Weaknesses: Has been nerfed considerably since her debut. Many of his attacks are pretty straightforward and can be prone to becoming predictable or sidestepped. Often mistaken for Tidus from Final Fantasy.

Affiliation: None. Enters the tournament in order to confront Kazuya Mishima, the man she suspects may have been involved in the death of his mother.

Background: The child of a famous spelunker father and a mother who worked as an executive of G-Corporation, Leo experienced great loss with the disappearance of his father years ago, and recently with the death of her mother. After a period of seclusion and depression, Leo emerged to investigate the mysterious circumstances of his mother’s death. Her efforts uncover the name Kazuya Mishima, revealed to be the new power behind G-Corporation. After a silent promise made at his mother’s grave, Leo decides to enter the just-announced King of Iron Fist Tournament 6 to find the truth.

Character Analysis: Leo, Leo, Leo… a new character introduced in Tekken 6 who resembles many other ‘pretty boys’ in other fighting games- Rock Howard from Fatal Fury Garou Desetsu, Eliot from Dead or Alive. A beautiful boy… or is he? Many suspect that Leo is, in fact, a girl in disguise… aside from the reason why Jin Kazama turned evil, this is one of the Great Mysteries that should be revealed in Tekken 6.
If Leo is indeed a girl, what could be the reason for a female fighter to cross-dress? Is it to just to conceal her identity from the powerful enemy she’s hunting down? Or is there an even deeper, more complex reason..? And if it were eventually revealed that Leo is indeed a guy… how weird will that be?

All that is certain is that we will all be fighting hard to unlock the truth (and we’re not talking about whether or not Kazuya killed Leo’s mom) in the console versions’ Story Mode.

What does the future hold for this German butt-kicker? Leo’s reason for entering the tournament is pretty cut-and-dried, and it ends with Kazuya Mishima. Unfortunately as is the case with most characters seeking revenge on any of the Mishima blood-heirs (such as Eddy with Kazuya), it’s pretty slim that Leo will be able to face or even defeat the diabolical Kaz in the canon storyline. But perhaps some sort of closure or revelation may be won at the end. For now.
Surely any failure or setback will not keep this powerful fighter down for long. We can be sure that Leo’s thirst for justice won’t be easily quelled, ensuring her return in future installments. All I can say is that hopefully the console versions will answer the question of Leo’s actual gender once and for all…

Stay tuned next week for another fighter’s story!

Tekken 6 is set for release on the PS3, Xbox360 and PSP this Fall 2009.

  1. Lol at interchanging his/her everytime you refer to Leo. I STILL think it’s a she, you can see some boob.

  2. Well, I really hope you’re right. Chances are Leo IS a girl, I think… that’s cooler and maybe we’ll be seeing feminine customs for ‘her’ in the consoles…

Wow, this was great to read. Very funny, informative and witty! Great job. 🙂

Personally, I would love it if Leo turned out to be a male… then it truly would be a double-twist, heh. Why do I get the feeling though that in the story mode all we’ll get it some other characters’ faces going O//////O at the sight of a naked Leo (who we don’t see, but has revealed his/her gender to them)? Why oh why?

  4. I see boob, its probably a chick. theres also a custom for her to put his hair down into a ponytail making it look more like shes a chick. if its a guy, than i feel gay

  5. His a male,,, according to the tekken site and the new release of tekken 8 that i bought this last week,, the full story of leo is all about a guys adventure,, so buy the tekken 8 and see for your self.. that leo is a cute boy,, or a beautiful guy,, baby face,,, enough of that non sense thingy… i bet you,,,

  6. wow i never ting he is a boy

  7. Ace Johnson Says:

Leo is a guy, he has a funny girly voice, but its easily able to recognize Leo as a guy.
