1Up Show Goes Down with EGM

Okay, it was one thing for EGM to shut down. Now, one of the best, if not the best, online gaming shows has gone the way of the Dodo as well.

The 1Up Show, as I know it, is now also gone. According to Kotaku, as of today, 30 of 1Up‘s staff, including some long-standing writers and editors, have been laid off. The list includes EIC James ‘Milkman’ Mielke, Shane Bettenhausen, Matt Chanondrait, Ryan McDonnell, the whole 1Up Show crew and Gamevideos.com‘s staff. This explains the recent postponement of the site’s ‘Gaming Night’ program which was supposed to feature Streetfighter IV. I’m pretty sure no one’s in a mood to play games when you suddenly find out you’ve been fired.

WHAT THE HELL? Why did UGO buy the freakin’ Network in the first place? For the name? Or just to shut the place down? WHAT THE FREAKIN’ HELL??

I feel bad for the loss of the 1Up Show. I feel bad for the loss of some of the most entertaining gaming shows online. I feel bad for gaming in general.

This is a sad day for Gaming indeed.

Hopefully when all is said and done, there will be good things that come from this. But right now, I just feel so angry.
