Heavenly Sword 2?

Heavenly Sword was a pretty nice-looking and nice-playing game… pity it lasted about six hours (and no, I do not consider playing through the game again on nightmare difficulty part of canon). Developer Ninja Theory is apparently going about the motions of starting on a sequel, since they did mention somewhere that HS was part of a projected trilogy. Well, they held a focus group recently, according to a report by Kotaku, and here are some tidbits which may or may not make it into the new game…

Heavenly Sword 2 will take place 10 years after the events in the first game. Cool. Not bad. A decade is quite a bit of time- Nariko’s dust by now, and Shen even more wrinkled and probably bed-ridden, while Kai should be quite the lovely, mature and hopefully very sane woman at 28.

The main character will be a male with martial arts background. BAH. Heavenly Sword is about babes. Bad idea, unless this is just an option.

The main character will be Kai, but she will be a more mature woman. Of course… ten years changes a person. Kai, in my opinion, stole the show in the first game, and she’s certainly a great link to the first game, and a viable heroine in her own right. I hope they keep a lot of the aspects of her original design, but make her sexier and smarter… but keep a bit of the humor that made her so loveable.

The game will require you to master different martial arts styles before retrieving the Heavenly Sword. Variety is good, but the thing is, once you get the Heavenly Sword that’s it… why go back to any other weapon or style?

Instead of button mashing, the game will use the analog sticks to go through weapon motions. Could be awesome. Could break the game. Let’s hope it works.

The game will have downloadable weapons, characters and enemies to customize your experience. Should have done this with the first game. Still can, Ninja Theory…

There will be more interaction with the environment. Sounds cool.

The game will have you on a storyline with replayable missions, as opposed to an open world. Welcome to Heavenly Sword X-2…

I’m all for another HS game, and I love the idea of seeing a mature Kai. Make it happen, Ninja Theory. Let’s hope you learned from your mistakes…
