Soul Calibur Movie Update

Fighters Generation posted a meaty update recently for the upcoming Soul Calibur movie. Apparently, the story will follow the voluptuous Ivy as she searches for an ‘ancient relic’ (Soul Edge, natch) that her father (Cervantes) had been obsessed with before he died. Once she discovers it though, she soon finds herself involved in something far bigger than she ever expected. The movie’s centering on Ivy has shades of the Dead or Alive movie, and seems to share a bit with the upcoming Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li (female leads in fighting games rule!).

There are shades of Lara Croft in there as well. Will Cervantes actually appear in the movie, or just as a flashback? What of the other characters in the SC lineup? Will Ivy be toned down from her more amoral, anti-heroine role in the game or will she still be the bad-ass hunter of All Things Soul Edge she is?

Siegfried?
He looks pissed.

One other tidbit- FG also posted this conceptual image of Siegfried. Take note, the movie will be live-action, so this is probably just a reference pic. Looks kinda first gen to me… anyways, all we can do is cross our fingers and hope Soul Calibur makes a better movie than any previous adaptations to date.

that is dumb shes not the main fighter bull crap you know who should lead be Siegfried of corse and ivy is cool in all but what does she have to do to be main role its just to get in the that danm idea of sex sells no thank you.

and about dead or alive good movie cuz a girl is the main fighter but thay mixd up the story but the fight seens were good but thay need to work heard for this movie to work and i am not made that is a giel but if its a girl it should besofeta

  2. amen to that

  3. ok, i can slightly agree with matt. i think if any female was to be the lead role it should be taki because of her conection with Mitsurugi, that makes for a good story. but if it should be based around anybody it should be Nightmare and Siegfried

  4. kk, not a bad point but i really don’t care right know because i jus found out soul calibur 4 cominng out 31st july

  5. Soul Calibur should be produced by some Japanese and French production companies so i think if Eurocorp and Japan’s Micott And Basara studios to make the film with Asian actors and some European and American actors in the film,Yoshmitsu has to be played by a Japanese actor.

    Thank You.

  6. Wha? I mean I like Ivy, but as far as SC females go, it oughta be Sophitia. And in a very general way, Kilik.

  7. the movie will blow dog turds. Ivy For Shits sakes she’s half friggin naked it sounds like a soul calibur Porno. I cant believe no one gets that video game movies are never good either mediocare or shitty.

  8. Actually, a friend of mine who works at *one of the major studios* said she/he actually came in contact with what was supposed to be a draft script for this film. Here’s what I know about it (this may also explain why there are so many rumors about SoulCalibur Movie’s story):

-There ARE two scripts for this film. The first one was written a few years ago. I guess it was taken around to a few studios and the overall opinion of it was that it was utter crap. As I understand, the guy who wrote it also owned the rights to make it. (I believe this was the story about the two monks coming together to fight an ‘evil prince’.)

-The other version of the script was the one my friend was entrusted with. She/he said that it was written by a guy who didn’t have writing credits and that it was in ‘very rough form’. I believe the studio passed on it due to this and also to the fact that the writer’s strike was going on at the time…

…But here’s what’s interesting: my friend said that although the script was in a proper script format and because of the length of it (nearly 200 pages!), most all studios WOULD pass without giving it a second glance…unless it were written by a well-known screenwriter. Though not a fan of SC but remembering I am, my friend decided to give it a look. Though she would not tell me a lot (she ‘didn’t want to ruin any surprises in case the version gets made.) she said its story read NOTHING like a video game. In her/his words, it was an AMAZING.

The writer would have had to have done something pretty amazing for my friend to say that.

Oh, my friend summed it up for me like this: “Isabella (”Ivy”) Valentine is an introductory character (for the audience) stepping into a world she’s not ready for.” “There was a brooding presence I felt when reading the script, and at the end, it did not disappoint.”

I told my friend they’d make a damn good agent and asked if they don’t end up making it, if they could get me a copy of the script. My friend said most likely not but they’d see what they could do.

From all else, I think Nightmare and Cervantes had a very big part in this story’s version.

  10. Hi there, i use to watch my little brother playing Soul calibur II in his Nintendo GameCube, he really like this game he mange to finished all the chapters and unlocked all the characters and costumes and other weapons and extra game options. Now i wanted to purchase for the SC III and IV but unfortunately its not available for NIntendo, so i’m thinkin to buy Playstation later on and buy SC III and the IV. but now i read this blog and if i’m not mistaken you’re sayin that it would have a movie to be released soon, is that correct? if that so then my little brother will be more excited about it.
Nightmare is his favorite of all the characters, sometimes he choose Link, he is cute too.
When my brother is out for school, i use to play his game system and the SC II, and i like the character named TALIM, she’s adorable cute when she taunt “ARE YOU OKAY?”, WIND GUIDE ME, I AM ONE OF THE WIND. LOL, and i think TALIM is a Young Filipina (Philippines) since i saw her profile that she’s from South East Asia but not specifically stated that she’s from Philipines, and the name TALIM is a word in Filipino which means SHARP, we used to say it the knife is maTALIM, or the sword is maTALIM (sharp/sharpened). MATALIM is a filipino word the rootword is TALIM and MA is just a prefix, talim means sharp or sharpened edge. anyway it’s just my thought, who knows, Talim might be an inspired filipino character, or one of the producers of namco might be a Filipino or from Philippines, LOL. just a thought again. On destined stage Talim VS Yunsung, their both cute.

IVY’s character is good but when i saw her it reminds me about the character of Dennis on GHOST FIGHTER, they have both the same weapon.

VOLDO’S character is just like a combination of Vega and Blanca of street fighter.

YOSHIMITSU is slightly comparative to DHALSIM of street fighter they’re both doin voodoo thing.

XIANG HUA is pretty as Chun Li of SF.

and a lot more to compare about the characters of SC and other games or namco games and movies.

hope i can watch the movie soon of soul calibur movie.

  11. Preston Says:

Ok im wondering why Ivy is gonna be the main character of the movie (if it comes). I mean that if they are why Ivy she’s exposes herself in crude ways (except her full suit of armor) and might ruin the Soul Caliber name. My opinion if a female Lead it should be Talim or Xianghua. Possibly my idea is not to make it a central 1 main character role but all the characters like good or bad since they all fought for what they believed in as a seperate journey like warping everyones life to one big story the fight for the holy sword or sword of destruction

  12. Im a big Ivy fan and im quite happy with the story following her i mean her outfit in SCIV was a bit on the porno side but her story is godd she is a daughter of the cursed sword and herveins have soul edges blood in them and he must destroy soul edge to live what little remaining life she has and further more her character is classy with the english accent
