Here We Go Again
Looking at the recently-posted Tekken 6 videos, my emotions and feelings are mixed. Due to the less-than-optimal quality of the footage, the game’s true look can’t really be appreciated. However, I do think that the character models are a bit better than before, though I am really, really irritated that the fighters all seem to still move the same way as in the previous couple of Tekkens. Now, any hardcore Tekken Junkie can quote a ton of changes, but I’m a Hardcore Casual Gamer, and changes to animations that only frame-by-frame inspection can discern don’t really impress me. Nor do damage values or this or that new juggle addition or removal. At the very least, the fighters STILL do that frickin’ repetitious ‘last shudder’ when they are knocked out on the ground, and it’s pretty irritating.
Despite this, I am still raring to get the game on PS3, of course- it’s still one of the great fighting games and arguably the most popular around. I am looking forward to the radical customization options, which hopefully will give us everything and the kitchen sink to fool around with characters’ looks. Yes, I fully intend to put Nina and the girls in bikinis if possible. Though I find myself very, very afraid of the possibility of Bob in a speedo.
More videos are still to come in the next few days from the ongoing game shows in Japan. Check out SD Tekken and Gamevideos for updates. As before, the arcade version is still set for later this year, while a PS3 version is slated for sometime in 2008, after the release of the home version of Soulcalibur IV.
