Instant Kills in Soulcalibur IV?

There has been much speculation about the supposed ‘new gameplay mechanic’ in the upcoming Soulcalibur IV which will allow players to end a round without depleting their opponent’s lifebar or causing a ring out.
Some guess that this may involve a Super Instant Kill move similar to that in Guilty Gear. Or a one-hit kill as in Bushido Blade. Others hazard that this may mean the return of Weapon Breaks, and perhaps introduce ‘disarms’ into the Soulcalibur mix.

My theory is still that this may be a sort of Fatality move, perhaps visualized in the trailer when Siegfried gives an apparently stunned Tira a lethal-looking slash that looks to split her in twain. Perhaps you will need to stun or dizzy an opponent before this move can be done, by doing a series of combos or hitting several hard attacks in succession. After which, once the enemy is seeing stars, you input the command for the Instant Kill move.

In any case, hopefully this factor will not throw Soulcalibur IV’s gameplay off balance. The producers have stated in interviews that they’re still studying the matter.  Soulcalibur IV is set for a home release on PS3 and Xbox360 in 2008.
